We encourage clients to undertake an exit strategy and grooming for exit review prior to embarking on a sale process.

Experience indicates that there are a number of key questions at the forefront of clients minds when considering a sale, being:

  • How long does it take to sell a business?
  • Do I need to do any preparation?
  • Can I sell the business discreetly and in confidence?
  • How do I find a buyer if I don’t advertise?
  • How does the sales process work?
  • What do I need to tell a buyer?
  • How much will the tax man take?
  • What about my role, and that of my workforce, after the sale?

The Booth Ainsworth Corporate Finance Team will address these areas, and any other queries, with our clients at the outset of the process.

The specific steps taken on a disposal will vary depending upon what we believe is the right strategy to adopt for each individual client. For example this may involve a focused exercise concentrating on only a handful of purchasers, or at the other extreme a wide auction process to flush out all interested parties, or perhaps an exclusive deal with the existing management team. The key point being that each client, and their circumstances, is different and we tailor our approach accordingly.
